Bullersten

The Bullersten pictures were the first major works Flanagan produced after moving to County Fermanagh. The word ‘Bullersten’ is Scandinavian in origin. It is most often used to describe a boulder in a stream that produces sound when moved. It has to do with the natural frequency of objects, and the lines that Flanagan draws around the perimeter of certain shapes and forms echo this frequency.

I search for reality behind a surface appearance, a landscape of the imagination where form and space fuse to create an overall unity.
